Thank you! I am really excited to get my film back! This felt like a teaser for me (I took way more photos on film!). I hope to be so lucky to have that opportunity 🖤🖤
Oh, I need your advice. I’m thinking of getting an analogue camera to use for art projects. Which camera do you use? And would you recommend it? I’ve done a bit of research but can’t decide.
Oh I love film! I shoot on a canon ae-1 program. I learned on this camera when I was a kid because my grandpa had one. What I like about this camera is I can shoot manually (adjust the setting) or automatically (use it as a point and shoot). There are so many good camera out there though. I’m eyeing up the Diana Mini camera for fun. The Holga and Ilford cameras have great reviews. I also shoot on disposable sometimes, too!
It was truly wonderful, and I am so grateful for the experience. And you’re not alone in your experience. I hear this from so many of the artists I work with. I’m working on an idea to help being more accessible community to artists. Can I ask where you’ve looked community before?
About two years ago a woman named Beth created the Women's Photography Circle which then has a local chapter in many states (some larger states have more than one). I joined the Colorado circle which is where I was living at the time and went to just a few events (not many were organized). There I met my good friend Alicia so I consider that attempt successful. Now I am in Richland, WA, and nothing seems to happen here. I've looked for artist and photography groups and there don't seem to be any. There is a Washington Women's Photography Circle but everything happens in the "famous" part of the state which is the Seattle area.
In both states there were very few events planned and I found that a lot of the women had more pressing priorities like husbands and children (I have neither) so any sort of new friends/community was last on the list. When I was in Colorado I tried organizing events and no one would show up. People said they would and then they would flake out so it was really frustrating. In eastern Washington I haven't found any groups.
Okay, rant over! LOL Happy to share more if you'd like. :-)
Ah yes! I do find in person things to be a bit more challenging--to both organize and find. Im sorry you are experiencing that, too. I don’t think there’s any harm in continuing to try or branching out to adjacent groups that might have an overlapping interest? Like a hiking club, walking club, etc.
I have personally found better luck with meeting people online and then organizing in-person meet ups. It is quite a bit different than local support but I’m finding they each hold their own uniqueness and I’ve equally enjoyed both for different reasons.
This is beautiful, Lauren! I, too, have met so many wonderful soul sisters and brothers by interacting online (go figure!) - some of who I've since met in person and have developed deep friendships with.
I think community and collaboration with other artists (I am one myself) can be an amazing experience if that is how you operate in your life. I am in a space of deep solitude now, both with my art and my life and I think that's ok, too. :)
It’s always so good to hear from you, Barbara! Meeting friends online wasn’t something I ever really thought about. But it’s so beautiful when the connections become so deep that you meet in person and it’s an equally beautiful experience. I’m so grateful for that!
I, do agree, though. There are seasons for community and seasons for solitude and both are equally important in creative practice 🖤
This sounds like a dream! Love your photos Lauren 🥰 I hope one day we get to meet too! You are such an inspiration

How wonderful! I’m still seeking this but haven’t had any luck yet.

Oh, and I am a member of Connected Artist Club which is a great online community.
I never heard of that! I’ll have to Google it. By the name alone, it really nice!
